Prof. Mukesh Khare is leading the colleagues in Environmental Engineering Group in its commitment to make a major contribution to the academic development of IIT Delhi, and in furthering its national and international status as a great institute since he joined in 1990.Khare is noted for developing novel, substantial and sustained engagement initiatives, regionally/nationally in various community groups, local government, institutions/universities and the ministries and globally with major universities and institutions.Khare has a strong strategic leadership experience in many organizations/institutions/government bodies within and outside India.Khare has participated as expert/invited professors in many leading academic institutions in India and worldwide.Khare has worked asDean, Alumni Affairs and International Programme at IIT Delhiand he was responsible for developing the operational structure and preamble of a newDevelopment Office at IIT Delhi.Khareis a distinguished Civil/Environmental Engineer, with broad industrial experience in the air and water sectors, manifest in a strong portfolio of interdisciplinary research and more than 250 research publications in the refereed open literature.Khare is renowned for his pioneering research in urban air quality modelling and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ).Khare has led a group of researchers from within IIT Delhi and formulatedComprehensive Environmental Pollution Index (CEPI)under the sponsorship of CPCB and MoEF, Government of India which has now been gazette by notification and being used for environmental management of industrial clusters throughout the country.Khare is also leading a cell in the CPCB on IAQ, responsible for formulation of IAQ protocol.Kharehas been working as Member (Technical), Commission on Air Quality Management for Delhi, NCR and adjoining areas, Government of India.Khare has experience of living and working in different countries, including countries like Papua New Guinea, West Indies, USA, UK, France, Malaysia, Singapore, and Germany and many other countries.  He is a highly gifted communicator, with a particular talent for effectively conveying complex scientific concepts to lay audiences, and with a track record of successful engagement with national and regional broadcast media and newspapers.

Broad:  Air quality modelling, indoor air quality.

Specific: Time series analysis and Time series modelling application to vehicular pollution dispersion. Deterministic modelling application to urban air pollution. Numerical modelling application to urban air pollution. Compartmental modelling in indoor air pollution dispersion. Episodic urban air quality management. Industrial waste treatment – Rotating Biological Contactor Process.
